The island of Maui in Maui County * Until 730 AM HST. * At 354 AM HST, radar indicated persistent heavy rain over the windward slopes of Haleakala, with rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Streams have responded with water levels running high, particularly in the Hanawai and Oheo Gulch streams. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Kipahulu, Kaupo, Keanae, Nahiku, Kula, Makawao, Pukalani, Keokea, Huelo, Hana, Haliimaile, Haiku-Pauwela, Pauwela, Haleakala National Park, Wailua, Kailua and Hamoa.
