Description:
At 454 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain diminishing over southeast
Big Island, including the Pahala area. Water levels in Paauau Gulch
are beginning to lower, but remain elevated. Emergency management
reports closure of Mamalahoa Highway near Pahoa between mile markers
50 and 54. Runoff from previous heavy rain could result lingering
flood impacts over the next couple of hours.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
SOURCE...Radar.
IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible
in steep terrain.

Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Honokaa, Volcano, Glenwood, Mountain
View, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hawaiian Acres, Keaau, Wood
Valley, Pohakuloa Camp, Papaikou, Pepeekeo, Pahala, Honomu, Pahoa
and Hakalau.
Instruction:
Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of drainage
ditches and streams, streets, highways, properties, and other low
lying spots.
