The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the
* Flash Flood Warning for...
The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County
* Until 645 PM HST.
* At 328 PM HST, radar indicated areas of heavy rain continuing over
portions of east and southeast Big Island. The heaviest rain is
concentrated over the Kau District between Kawa Flats and Volcano,
including portions of Mamalahoa Highway. Rain was falling at a
rate of 2 to 4 inches per hour. The water level at the Paauau
Gulch gage near Pahala continues to run high. Emergency management
reports water over Mamalahoa Highway at that location.
HAZARD...Heavy rain producing life threatening flash flooding.
SOURCE...Emergency management.
IMPACT...Significant and life threatening flooding in
drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and
other low lying areas. Multiple public road closures
expected, as well as landslides in steep terrain.

Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Honokaa, Volcano, Glenwood, Mountain
View, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hawaiian Acres, Keaau, Wood
Valley, Pohakuloa Camp, Papaikou, Pepeekeo, Pahala, Honomu, Pahoa
and Hakalau.
Instruction:
Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of drainage
ditches and streams, streets, highways, properties, and other low
lying spots.
