Description:
At 458 PM HST, radar indicated rainfall trending down over the
warned area, as well as a trend down in the Waiaha Stream water
levels. Flooding impacts are still possible over the next couple of
hours, especially in and around the Kailua-Kona area, from this
spike in stream level.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
SOURCE...Stream Gauges.
IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible
in steep terrain.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Puuanahulu, Kalaoa, Holualoa, Honalo,
Puako, Kahaluu-Keauhou, Kainaliu, Kealakekua, and Kona
International Airport.
Instruction:
Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of drainage
ditches and streams, streets, highways, properties, and other low
lying spots.
