Description:
At 731 PM HST, the Kawela Gulch stream gauge remains elevated and at
a level that has been known to close Kamehameha Highway at the
Kamalo Dip between mile markers 10 and 11. Flooding is occurring and
may affect other nearby drainages as well.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.
SOURCE...Stream Gauges.
IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road
closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible
in steep terrain.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
Kaunakakai, Kualapuu, Hoolehua, Kalaupapa National Park, Kawela,
Kamalo, Maunaloa, Ualapue, Kepuhi, Pukoo, Halawa Valley and
Molokai Airport.
Instruction:
Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.
