.Very dry and unseasonably warm weather will continue through
Monday. For today, gusty west winds and minimum relative
humidities around 13% for southern Campbell County will create
critical fire weather conditions.
Monday, a strong cold front will slice through the area later
Monday afternoon and Monday evening. Ahead of the cold front,
west winds may reach 20 to 30 mph with gusts around 45 mph as
minimum relative humidities drop as low as 12%. Gusty northwest
winds will occur behind the cold front. The combination may create
critical fire weather conditions Monday afternoon and early
evening, especially considering antecedent very dry and warm
weather as well as the drought.
The National Weather Service in Rapid City has issued a Red Flag
Warning for gusty winds and low relative humidity, which is in
effect from noon today to 7 PM MDT this evening. A Fire Weather
Watch has also been issued. This Fire Weather Watch for gusty
winds and low relative humidity is in effect from Monday
afternoon through Monday evening.
* AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zone 315 Southern Campbell.
* WINDS...For the Red Flag Warning, west winds 10 to 20 mph with
gusts from 25 to 30 mph. For the Fire Weather Watch, west 20 to
30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 13 percent for both the Red Flag
Warning and Fire Weather Watch.
* IMPACTS...The combination of gusty winds and low relative
humidity would produce critical fire weather conditions.
Instruction:
A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions
are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible
Red Flag Warnings.
