Dry air will build into the region today, with afternoon relative humidity levels falling as low as 20 to 25 percent. While stronger northwest to north winds will be seen during the period of higher relative humidity in the morning, afternoon gusts to around 20 mph will lead to elevated fire weather concerns in areas where Spring green-up is lagging. The lowest relative humidity levels will be seen from mid-afternoon through sunset, generally between 3 pm and 8 pm CDT.

Relative humidity values will drop to around 25 percent along with west winds 10 to 20 mph across northwestern and west central Minnesota. Given the extremely dry fuels, near critical fire weather conditions are expected for the afternoon and early evening hours. Any fire that does develop has the potential to quickly spread.
