Event:
Rip Current Statement
Urgency:
Expected
Effective:
March 1, 2026 - 12:12pm
Expires:
March 1, 2026 - 10:00pm
Description:
* WHAT...Large breaking waves between 7 to 10 feet and dangerous
rip currents.
* WHERE...For the High Surf Advisory. north facing reefs of the
Marianas. For the High Risk of Rip Currents, north and east
facing reefs of the Marianas.
* WHEN...Until 4 PM ChST this afternoon.
* IMPACTS...Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and
localized beach erosion. Rip currents can sweep even the best
swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Elevated trade-wind swell and longer-
period northeast swell continue to produce hazardous surf along
north facing reefs and a high risk of rip current risk along
north and east facing reefs. Seas and swell are slowly
diminishing, and may allow surf to fall below hazardous levels
late this afternoon. The rip risk along north facing reefs is
expected to decrease to moderate by tonight, but may stay high
along east facing reefs overnight. Northerly swell looks to
arrive around midweek, possibly increasing surf near hazardous
levels again along north facing reefs Thursday night.
Instruction:
Rip currents will be life threatening. Inexperienced swimmers
should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions.
Rip currents will be life threatening. If caught in a rip
current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If
able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to
escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
